We celebrated part of Addie's birthday at Sunflower Farms in Longmont because she LOVES animals! She was so funny pointing at the animals and working on her animal noises. Sawyer & Maggie enjoyed it too. It was alot of fun because Granny was here for the whole weekend to celebrate with us.

Sawyer's Field Trip to Sunflower Farms

Sawyer & I got to spend some quality one on one time on his field trip to Sunflower Farms which is one of the coolest places in our area. Of course he was drawn to "SMUDGE" the farm cat immediately who of course loved Sawyer. I think the goats had a gut ache from all the corn he fed them and then I got in trouble from one of the teachers for feeding the horses. Hey doesn't she know I am a farm kid from Kansas, I know what I am doing!!

So proud of my boy Sawyer! He received a PRIDE EAGLE AWARD at school yesterday. Mrs. Dreitz picked 2 kids out of the class and he was one of them. It was a surprise so we just told him Mrs. Dreitz wanted us to have a meeting with her and we headed over to the school. They had the whole school in the gym for an assembly with the parents sitting in the back. Mrs. Dreitz came and asked Sawyer to come sit with her afternoon class up in front, he had no idea still what was going on. The principal announced to the room of kids that she would be presenting PRIDE EAGLE awards to the kids who their teachers felt exhibit a prideful, respectful, kind attitude. She started with the Kindergarten class and announced Sawyer's classmate first then him. You could tell he was very surprised and then they drew names for someone to get to take home a stuffed Eagle and Sawyer's name was drawn. Pride Eagle hasn't left his side since! He is such a good kid and even though he drives me nuts at times at home I know he is a kind hearted kid!! To celebrate he picked

Sawyer & Maggie wanted to send Daniel a note in Heaven........so we bought some yellow balloons of course to symbolize the yellow brick road and then Sawyer picked out one blue balloon because he said it was Daniel's favorite color. They each wrote a note to Daniel and then tied them onto the balloons and released them. It was pretty neat because they watched the balloons disappear into the clouds and it was as if they did go all the way to heaven. We'll miss you Daniel.........

I have been waiting for this day since I found out I was pregnant with a girl! I was in dance when I was little and was hoping my daughters would want to be too. Maggie is taking a class that is an half hour of ballet and then a half hour of tap. We did a trial class last week and she seemed to be excited about it and so we returned this week paid our dues and started classes. Now if I can just find shoes small enough for her we will be set.

We headed off to Christmas Eve Services with Granny & Papa Bowman and Macey Woo Hoo.....Sawyer & Maggie sang Come On Ring Those Bells during service (see video posted below). They did great!

Sawyer wasn't expecting to see Santa since we had just gone to get our tree and he happened to be there. So Sawyer was a little panicked because he didn't have his list with him and couldn't remember everything that he had written down that he wanted!! Sawyer got a Razor Electric Dirt Bike from Santa for Christmas a mere 9 months ago, he rode it one time that day took a spill and was afraid to ride it for months. Then he decided he would just "coast" on it down our street then one day he decided to fire it up and he has been burning rubber, literally, ever since. There is a dirt track south of our house in Dacono that we took him to, he did pretty good with it being his first time out. He was full of questions though for David about EVERYTHING else except the task at hand which about drove David crazy.

The T-Ball season has come to an end, we had so much fun this year meeting the families and getting to know the kids. David was the coach and did a wonderful job as always with the kids, all the parents asked him if he was going to coach again next year! Sawyer really likes T-ball and was hitting the ball and making great stops by the end of the season. He can't wait for T-Ball to come around again.........

I cannot believe how different it has been having #3, with Sawyer we didn't leave the house I swear for 3 months, then with Maggie we hit Target & Starbucks within the first 2 weeks, and now with Addie we have been out and about since coming home from the hospital!! You just can't slow down when you have other kids to entertain. It's been good though getting out and enjoying the summer.

So on Saturday our Maple Tree just snapped off in the wind! We are so bummed, that tree provided alot of shade in the early evening hours and it was one we planted when we first moved in. The kids though have made the best of it and it has been their "TREEHOUSE" for the last few days!!!

Father's Day 2009

We had actually celebrated Father's Day the weekend prior because I just KNEW I was going to have this baby and wanted to be sure David got a proper celebration, yes another way I have JINXED myself!! Anyhow last weekend we went out to supper and David got to pick out a new grill............

Then this weekend he got to pick the breakfast place so we went down to Denver to Pete's Kitchen then decided to go to Washington Park. Wash Park now has paddle boats and bikes to rent so we did another weekend of Paddle Boating!!!

Why HARPER?

First of all HARPER is my mom's maiden name so that is where I came up with HARPER. In addition to that there are 2 very special women behind that name, my Grandma Harper - Jerry Janeane Harper and my mother Mary Kay Bowman.

My Grandma Harper passed away when I was in 2nd grade so I don't have many memories of her but the ones I do have have stayed with me throughout the years. Then I have the stories and pictures that my Granny (her mother) and my mother (her daughter) have shared with me. And of course my mom who has been the 1 constant throughout my life to this day and there are TOO many memories to even write about!!

My Grandma was a woman of many many talents, everything that she did she excelled at and loved. She auditioned with Shirley Temple for roles in movies, she had Amelia Earhart babysit her in California for my Great-Grandparents! She played softball, bowled, rode Harleys, raised Blue Heelers & Australian Shepards, she loved to read, she did it all---- but she also was a real woman who struggled in many ways throughout her life, I wish I had known her past the age of 7 and I wish she had had time to overcome those struggles in her life. My mom always tells me that I had to have gotten so many of my traits from my Grandma because they didn't come from her!!

Then there is my Mom and if you know me very well you know she is my best friend and someone who has always been there for me throughout it all. She is the kind of person who has a love for animals and people and would do anything for anyone. She is a talented artist and is the craftiest person I know. She provided us so much growing up when the men in our lives failed us, she had to be it all and did it with grace.

And most importantly God, Faith, and Prayer were their rock and they instilled that in me, the most precious gift of all.

So who wouldn't want their daughter named HARPER if they had these 2 amazing women in their lives?!?!

Highland Lake Paddle Boating

We have discovered a small family owned lake in Mead which is just up the road northwest of us. It is surrounded by huge shade trees that have tire swings hanging from them and where you can rent paddle boats & canoes. So Saturday the weather was finally nice, no tornado warnings, so we ventured out with a picnic lunch, Boo, and the remote control boat. The kids love it!!! I think Boo did too...........

ARTSY FARTSY DAYS!

We have had two ARTSY FARTSY filled days...........first yesterday at Crackpots Pottery for Storytime in Longmont with our friend Ryan and his mommy Julie, little sis Baby Kate spent the day with Grandma so no fish plate for her!! They read Rainbow Fish then painted a Fish Shaped Plate. Maggie had a meltdown when we had to leave her Fish to be baked!! It's amazing though how detailed Sawyer is now in his artistic abilities, may have an Uncle JR in the making.

Then today we went to Art Class in Boulder at Clementine Studio, Sawyer had gone there when we first moved to Firestone before Maggie was born. He remembered who both of his teachers were and to his delight they were still there!! How in the world does he remember these types of things?!?! Maggie and Sawyer are doing a sibling class so they get to go together, they had so much fun today being allowed to do things that mom would NEVER do at home!!! The teacher laughed because the last time she saw us I was pregnant with Maggie and here I stood today pregnant again. Can't believe I am doing all this stuff while in Pre-Term Labor..........a little different mentality when you have 2 kids at home to take care of compared to my 1st pregnancy!!

Last weekend we took Sawyer's remote control boat out on the little lake up the road of course after grabbing Starbucks and a Muffin :0) Poor Boo never goes anywhere with us anymore so she even got to go along, it's to bad she is so obsessed with whatever we are eating to enjoy actually being out of the house. I guess when you hit 13 1/2 food is about all that matters.

Then this weekend I was on-call so we stayed close to home and in between getting called out spent alot of time in the backyard. David and the kids had a water gun fight, Sawyer had a buddy over to swim, they went on a bike ride, mowed the grass, started cleaning out the garage, and lots more I'm sure I missed out on!

Graduation Day from Preschool

Well today was the big Preschool Graduation, complete with hats made out of cardboard and paper bowls, and diplomas!! Sawyer has loved having Miss Tara & Miss Carmen as his teachers these past 2 years, I think though his favorite thing this year was when they paired the Preschoolers up with 5th Graders as "reading buddies". He connected with his Buddy Evan right away and they became fast friends. Fortunately Sawyer will be in the same Kindergarten class as a few of his best buddies so he is looking forward to next year. All he is focused on right now though is heading to Granny & Papa's house next week BY HIMSELF and that Mom is going to have a baby before Kindergarten starts.

David found this playset on Craigslist for $150 in Boulder, so he had to go to Boulder take it apart, haul it home, restain it, and reassemble it!!! Alot of work that is being rewarded as I type with screams of "push me higher Daddy" from Sawyer and Maggie. Very lucky kids to have such a awesome daddy..........

So Sawyer and I finally had an opportunity to spend the day together, just the two of us! A good friend gave us 2 Rockies tickets lower level between 3rd base and home plate..........perfect seats - sunny at first then in the shade at the end. Another good friend watched MagPie for us and we were off. Sawyer did watch more of the 3 girls behind us at times than the actual ballgame but we had fun. I had a great time and realized just how much I need to make it a point to do things with Sawyer, just the two of us more often............

Sawyer "earned his rocks" by helping me around the house alot in the last few weeks when I am having contractions. So he decided he wanted a remote control boat like Uncle Bubba. It took us a few weeks to find one but came across one where else but Target. So he and Daddy took it out for a spin on Mlavik Lake and it actually made it home with them, I was afraid it was a cheapy and it would die in the middle of the lake!!

Sawyer rose at 6:00 a.m in anticipation of the EASTER BUNNY, somehow he must rank higher than Santa because we were not up this early on Christmas! After Sawyer woke up his baby sister Maggie they were off hunting eggs that David had hid all over the house, out in our front yard, and in the back yard!! Plus the Easter Bunny left some nice Easter Baskets, Maggie's favorite thing was the goggles that Sawyer got in his Easter Basket, I was afraid that she would demand wearing them to church but she didn't. We had a breakfast complete with Bunny Pancakes and then it was off to church. And guess what Starbucks was open on Easter so mommy got her Easter Treat :0) Now we are getting ready to make Easter Dinner.............HAPPY EASTER--

Esther has become such a part of my life! It has been such a blessing knowing her this past year and I am so grateful that David finally got to meet her. Our small group from church volunteered at the nursing home she is in and made Christmas ornaments with them and indulged in some Christmas cookies. Sawyer, Maggie, & I go to the nursing home to visit at least every other week and I cannot believe how well they do with the residents. Boo has even started going with me to work there and as you can see makes herself at home.

We were blessed with a trip to Rochester, NY where David's sister and family live. It was prime time for Fall foliage and the weather was perfect. Dar was quite the hostess and filled our days with fun, good food, LOUD music (ha ha!), teaching Maggie how to get her groove on, and just blessing us with Dar being Dar!!!!

We also got to spend time with David's Parents which was great.
Sawyer loved hanging out with his cousins Davey & Joey, he probably drived them nuts but they took very good care of him and Maggie!!!

While I was at work yesterday and my children were in "daddy daycare" a few events transpired throughout the day. First David was being the good husband and cleaning all the bathrooms and Sawyer had asked him if he could play in the kitchen sink with his bath toys. So David filled the sink up for him and left him to splish splash a bit while he finished scrubbing toilets. Well when he returned to the kitchen to check on Sawyer this is what he found..........................

guess Sawyer meant LITERALLY - could he play in the sink!!!

Then sweet innocent little MagPie got up for her nap and Daddy went to get her. Upon entering the room he was blown away by a pungent smell so he assumed she had just filled her drawers. But upon turning on the light she had poop from one end to the other of her bed!!! David thinks she must have done this early on in the nap because it took 2 baths to get her clean. You are all lucky because David did not photograph this incident!!!!

I was killing time at Walmart, yes I have a bit of white trash in me and I peruse the aisles of the local Walmart looking for a good deal from time to time. Anyhow this book caught my eye and I thought, "are they talking about me?" Sad yes.........but true!! I wouldn't say that Starbucks has saved MY life but at times I think it saved my children's lives. I just hop in the ol minivan and head on down to the drive thru Starbucks conveniently located by my house and soothe my aggravation with a Caramel Macchiato. I just keep saying to myself, really rationalizing my consumption of Starbucks, that at least it's not the liquor store. Of course it would be cheaper.......................yes many of you think I have a problem and it is true but I really do enjoy it!!!

My mom and I enjoyed another year at the Women of Faith conference in Denver. Every year we start the day off with an Egg Bagel Sandwich from Einstein Bagels and of course Starbucks!! The conference was an amazing time full of incredible music by Mandisa and Nicole C. Mullen, powerful messages, a delicious lunch at The Market on Larimer Square, and most of all INFINITE GRACE from the Man above. I look forward every year to this time with my mom as we both continue our journey in our Faith, each year it getting stronger and stronger.

We had 2 parties on Sawyer's birthday................a playdate for all of our friends in the morning then a little gathering with 2 of Sawyer's buddies, Owen & Ethan, in the evening. David out did himself this year creating 3 Monster Trucks out of Cardboard boxes for the boys to crush stuff with. I was amazed at how detailed they were. Way to go David!!!

Sawyer has wanted a cat since the day he could say CAT! So for his big #5 birthday I put together a scavenger hunt that he did to find the letters that spelled C-A-T. Here is part of the video of his hunt.............with Papa Bowman's help, yes he can read he just didn't have his glasses on!!!

Our journey begins at the Longmont Humane Society where they had over 100 cats to choose from!! Actually our journey began around the time Sawyer learned to talk and could express that he wants a cat, it has taken us this long to convince Daddy.

So Uncle Bubba, Granny & Papa Bowman, Maggie, Sawyer, and I all helped search for the perfect kitty for Sawyer to call his own. We met with only a few cats before discovering a little orange tabby kitten named Flare and his black and white brother Asland. They both were absolutely adorable but it was Flare who came up to Sawyer instantly and rubbed up against him. He was very loveable and playful and so Flare it was that warmed Sawyer's heart. So we brought Flare home - who was initially named Mr. Fluffernutter by Sawyer then changed to Mr. Cocopugs. If you have never read SkippyJon Jones you must and then you will see where he came up with such creative names!!!! Mr. Cocopugs has fit in very well at our house and has even put catankerous ol Boo in her place.................

It's amazing to me how a group of women can be brought together by the birth of a child and entering into motherhood and remain friends even though time and distance have grown between us!!! I am so greatful for this group of women.....................

Maggie Pie FINALLY warming up to Uncle Bubba, she decided she had made him suffer long enough!!!

Some of our most favoritest people in the world joined us for Smores on what turned out to be a cool rainy evening but that didn't dampen the need for pure sugar racing through our veins!! Our friends Curt & Michelle and their kids Avery & Ethan as well as Uncle Bubba & Aunt Rachel joined us for a fire in the pit and marshmallows on a stick.............MMMmmmmmm---

THUNDER IN THE ROCKIES

Today we spent the day with Rachel & Christopher at Thunder In the Rockies up in Loveland at The Ranch. Several organizations came together to surprise them with a Home Makeover!!! It has been amazing the outpouring of support for them from the community. They even had a stretch limo Hummer come and pick them up to take them out to The Ranch, Sawyer LOVED that, especially when he and Aunt Rachel were hanging out the sunroof at the stop light. Even Uncle JR made a surprise appearance all the way from Glenwood Springs!

You wouldn't believe all the TV crews that were there, I have seen coverage already tonight on CBS and NBC and I know I saw Fox News there too. Here is a link for 9news.

I am very proud of Christopher and his amazing spirit and Faith that has brought him through all of this. I just keep thinking, man what a plan God has for Christopher and how he is using him to touch all those around him as he meets all these incredible people along this journey. I can't wait to see what is in store for him next.

Visit with Esther!

The kids and I went to visit Esther today which we try to do all together at least every other week. I get the pleasure of spending 2 nights a week with her and love every minute of it. I met Esther through a part-time job that I took last summer through Home Instead Senior Care. They provide in-home services for seniors to help keep them in their home. I was matched up with Esther right before Christmas 2007 and we instantly hit it off! She is 87 and a spitfire. Unfortunately in April she got really sick and never fully regained her physical strength so she is now in a nursing home but her family is so awesome that they have continued to have caregivers come spend the evenings with her since it is her toughest time of day.

Anyhow today we visited and Sawyer brought in his beloved grasshopper and ladybug that he had caught to show her. The kids had picked out some fancy rhinestone hearts for her crocs so that is what Maggie is checking out in the bottom pic. The kids are awesome with the other residents too and they all get a kick out of seeing the kids. I'm glad that they get to have this experience with the older generation!

Today we had an open house for Pre-K, I cannot believe how much Sawyer and Maggie have changed in a year. It is absolutely amazing!!! Sawyer starts on Friday and will go M-W-F from 9:00-11:30 so ol Maggie and I will have to find something to do to keep us entertained!

Sawyer has been riding with NO training wheels for a few weeks now! He was the one that asked David to take the training wheels off so he could ride. I am always amazed at the things he is so courageous to try!!!

While Sawyer was on his 12 day trip with Granny & Papa, Maggie got some time to hang with friends all by herself! Mr. Ryan filled a few of our days and his mommy & I got a kick out of Maggie and Ryan telling each other "NO!" several times throughout their playdate!!!! We also enjoyed watching Ryan try to give Maggie lots of kisses. It was funny because they were both so sad when it was time to part ways.......................Maggie would say "Bye-Bye RYE-RYE"!!!

RELISHING THE LAST DAYS OF SUMMER..........

Some of our very good friends who Sawyer has been friends with since he was 6 months old came to visit today for a pool party complete with Popsicles. We all used to live up in the mountains in Eagle and have slowly all transplanted to the Front Range. They all had a blast playing in the pool while Maggie enjoyed sitting on my lap and standing on the patio table!!!

Ryan had his birthday party at one of the coolest parks in Loveland, it is complete with a train to ride for the kids, duck pond to feed the ducks & fish, playground area for big kids and one for little kids, and most importantly lots of big shade trees for these ridiculously hot days.
